Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers - Announcement RE: Joe Sbrocchi ED/GM
LEAMINGTON, ON - The Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG) today announces that our Executive Director / GM Joe Sbrocchi will be retiring from his position effective February 2023. Mr. Sbrocchi took over his role in leadership of the OGVG in September of 2017. He has helped lead our sector through a tremendous period of growth in production capacity, while also helping stimulate increases in both our domestic and export markets. He and his team have been instrumental in aiding our membership in their tumultuous transition through the past two and a half years of coping with COVID 19, worker challenges, and incumbent lockdowns. Through these times Joe has allowed our membership to be assured of a strong advocate working on their behalf. OGVG is appreciative of the efforts he has taken to help the greenhouse sector achieve its strategic goal of global leadership in greenhouse production.
In his message to staff and membership Mr. Sbrocchi stated, “I cannot convey to you all, the pride I have felt working for you, and the sector, while embracing the challenges, purpose and growth that the sector has given back to me.” Over his tenure as Executive Director / GM of OGVG, Mr. Sbrocchi continuously worked to enhance and maintain the profile of greenhouse production locally, domestically, and internationally. We are thankful for his service.
OGVG will soon begin the replacement process for a successor to carry forward the important work the organization undertakes in the very near future.
The Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG) represents more than 170 greenhouse vegetable farmers growing more than 3,800 acres of fresh tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. The greenhouse vegetable sector has grossed $1 Billion in farmgate sales in 2019, 2020, and 2021, and continue to develop and implement energy efficient and environmentally sustainable technologies that enables the sector to grow year-round. Employing nearly 20,000 Canadians and being a significant GDP contributor to our communities and the province of Ontario, the greenhouse sector is poised for future growth and successes to ensure a strong and secure domestic food supply system.
